FAQ

Q. How do I register?
A. If you wish to participate in the Tournament, you must download the contest Gamer Pic from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace ("Gamer Pic") at no cost during the Registration Period.
You MUST participate in the Tournament using the same Xbox Live Gamertag that you registered with. We will use the contact information you provided during registration to send any official Tournament communication. You are responsible for keeping your Xbox Live account information up to date.

You may only compete using a single Gamertag. If you are found to have competed under multiple identities or Gamertags, you will be automatically disqualified from the Tournament and could be disqualified from participating in future Xbox Live competitions.

Q. How do I play a match that affects my Leaderboard position?
A. Choose Xbox Live from the Main Menu (using the right thumbstick) and then select either Ranked Quick Match or Ranked Custom Match -> Exhibition Match. There are only two game modes allowed for a ranked head to head match:
  1. Ranked Quick Match
  2. Ranked Custom Match -> Exhibition

(NOTE: Ranked Team-Up is NOT allowed).

Q. How are Leaderboard ranks calculated?
A. Leaderboard rankings are calculated using a version of the ELO ratings system used in chess tournaments and other online games. Essentially, the higher your opponent is ranked, the more leaderboard points you will gain with a victory.

Q. How do I know if I qualify for the online playoff period?
A. Admins will send e-mails to qualified participants to the e-mail address they used upon registration for the tournament after qualifications are over. It is the responsibility of contestants to check their e-mail and frequently visit this website throughout the event to be updated on their qualification standing and match schedule. The leaderboards will be updated once a day and can be used as a gauge to determine where you currently stand during qualifications.

Q. How do I find out what my schedule is for the online playoff period?
A. It is the responsibility of the participant to check their e-mail and frequently visit this website to be updated of their qualification standing and match schedule. The brackets will be posted a few days following the completion of the qualification period. The brackets will contain match dates and times. Each summary screen will also show your next opponent and next match time.

Q. How do I play my scheduled matches during the online playoff portion of the tournament?
A.
  1. Select the Xbox Live option from the NHL 2K8 main game menu.
  2. Select Leagues.
  3. Select My Leagues.
  4. Select the NHL 2K9 HHOF tournament that you have been assigned to.
  5. Enter the League Lobby.
  6. Select (press A on Xbox 360) your next opponent and choose Ready.
  7. If your next opponent is already Ready then Select your next opponent and choose Challenge.
  8. If you receive a challenge from your next opponent, select him / her and choose Accept to enter into gameplay.

Q. What do I do if my opponent does not show up for a scheduled match?
A. Wait at least 20 minutes after your scheduled match time before reporting a "no show". If your opponent does not show up, use the contact form on this page to report the no show. Be sure to choose "Opponent No Show" as the subject of your email.

Q. What happens if I am unable to play at the scheduled date and time of my match?
A. Due to the time constraints of the online tournament, all participants are required to play at their designated date and time. Admins will attempt to schedule all your matches between 7-11pm on week days in your time zone. If you are unable to play your match at the scheduled time, and fail to show up, you will forfeit your match. (Matches may be played earlier than the scheduled time if both gamers agree.)

Q. What happens if I cannot connect to XBOX Live?
A. The sponsors are not responsible for the performance or reliability of the game console machines, their respective controls, the online gaming services they provide, or the connection provided by your ISP. Please verify that all these things are working properly prior to registering for the tournament or competing for a scheduled tournament match. You will forfeit your match if you fail to show up at the scheduled date and time.

A. The sponsors are not responsible for the performance or reliability of the Game Console Machines, their respective controls, the online gaming services they provide, or the connection provided by your ISP. Please verify that all these things are working properly prior to registering for the tournament or reporting for a scheduled tournament match. You will forfeit your match if you fail to show up at the scheduled date and time.
